The International Biological Diversity Day event held on May 22, 2023 at District Science Centre, Tirunelveli, was an enlightening and successful gathering that aimed to increase awareness and understanding of the significance of moths in our ecosystem. Attended by approximately 50 individuals from diverse professions and backgrounds, ranging from children to adults; the event provided an excellent platform to educate and engage participants about the often-underappreciated role moths play in maintaining biodiversity.

The event commenced with a captivating introduction about moths, highlighting their unique characteristics, diverse species, and vital ecological contributions. The introduction successfully piqued the interest of the attendees, setting the stage for an enriching experience. The presentation covered various topics, such as the life cycle of moths, their role in pollination, their interactions within food chains, and their contribution to ecosystem stability. To enhance the participants' understanding and engagement, we advised them to ask questions to clear their doubts about doubts. Accordingly, the participants interacted with us to understand the importance of this moths. One of the highlights of the event was a field excursion where participants had a chance to experience moths in the light sheet as live and then they recalled the morphological characteristics that we explained during the presentation. We started to setup moth screen once the presentation is over, we setup the moth screen by 6 PM and ended by 8.30 PM. In between we showed many other insects like Earwig, Caddisfly, Mayfly, Beetle, Bug, Wasp, Flies, etc visited our light sheet other than moth. After a certain time a few micro moths  from Pyralidae and small colorful Loboschiza koenigiana from Tortricidae, Helicoverpa armigera from Noctuidae, and a few moths from Erebidae visited our screen.
